After a wet, foggy weekend, 1st May is mild, still and dry, the sun trying to break through the hazy cloud and everyone about their Spring business.
How’s your Monday?
The beautiful silver birch which sported such brilliant acid green leaves before Easter, has been torched by the icy gales… can it grow new leaves, or will it suffer all summer?
The spinach bed is crammed with chickweed, which makes a tasty and highly nutritious salad…
My lunch – salad with sesame, feta… and chickweed fresh from the garden

Snow melting in bright sun today. Fierce winds blowing from the north, but blue skies offer hope of a returning Spring.
The patterns of the melting snow remind me of shagreen – shark skin to be made into objects d’art. A green leopard shark, perhaps, or a coral reef-dwelling fish. Beautiful!

In October 2011 we were sitting in the main square in Sighisoara’s ancient citadel, when we noticed the chestnut tree over our heads. The long drought over summer and a short burst of snow had confused the tree, and amongst the swelling chestnuts and the shrivelled leaves were fresh green leaves and white flowers. The poor tree didn’t know if it was coming or going. Lots more photos of
autumn colour in the new gallery

In March, we have the chance to learn from a master in photographic technique and artistry, with the Magura landscapes to inspire us. The workshop with Mihai Moiceanu will not only give us beautiful days of exploring the wild spaces and places around Magura, but to learn how to capture and exploit the limitless potential of imagery through the lens and then on the computer. Don’t miss it – only a small group – not many places available. I hope to be part of the group… so see you there?

Snowflakes on my balcony
It did, as expected, freeze hard last night; this morning it’s -5C and I’ve run out of wood. Brr. Very brrrr.
It snowed all day yesterday, and much of the night, and the outside world is comprehensively white and silent. Beautiful!
I’m off for a hot shower to thaw my extremities.
